Part art installation, part adventure playground, For Mountain, Sand & Sea was an immersive journey shaped by the distinctive character of Barmouth in North Wales—its dramatic landscape, extraordinary coastal setting and vivid historical image archive assembled by the local community.

The archive became a catalyst for uncovering stories and gathering an oral history of the town. Personal anecdotes, memories and reflections were reimagined and entrusted to a group of Welsh and international artists, who transformed them into performances, installations and interventions.

The event began with a social sculpture that brought the archive to life. Over the following two and a half hours, audiences were guided through the town to carefully chosen locations—buildings, landmarks, hidden corners, nooks and crannies—each connected to its images and stories. Along the way, they encountered a series of intimate performances and artistic interventions, revealing Barmouth through the experiences of the people who knew it best.
